What is CBD?

So what exactly is CBD? CBD refers to cannabidoil, which is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis is known to contain almost 400 different compounds. There are many studies being conducted by scientists and doctors worldwide confirming the therapeutic and medicinal benefits of CBD. Research has proven cannabis has been used to treat numerous ailments dating back thousands of years. CBD is one of over one hundred “phytocannabinoids”, which are unique to the cannabis plant. CBD is closely related to another popularly known phytocannabinoid, THC. THC is the compound which causes the high feeling which is what cannabis is most known for. Our CBD contains 0% THC, and has no psychoactive effects.

The rise in popularity of CBD had skyrocketed in the past few years. With more states legalizing the use of medical marijuana, the use and availability of CBD has been increasing across the country. Numerous news outlets including FOX NEWS, NBC and CNN have all featured CBD in their news articles, interviews and programming. NBC recently featured an article “Helpless”, where after seeking numerous treatments, CBD was the only cure for 2 year old Jaelah’s severe epileptic seizures . Although studies have been conducted for years, CBD products are relatively new to the market. With products including tinctures, oil, edibles and more it is easy to see how there could be confusion with the various products available.

With the rise of painkiller and opioid related deaths, many people are seeking alternatives to pharmaceuticals without the harsh side effects.  CBD is safe, non-addictive, and has very minimal side effects. CBD has been included in countless studies for the treatment of a variety of ailments including seizures, epilepsy, cancer, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression and many more.  The demand for CBD is increasing, and with this comes innovation.  It is refreshing to see more products becoming available including tinctures, shampoos, creams, lotions and more.

So why give CBD to your dog? CBD can give your canine the same benefits for you as it does for you. CBD has natural anti inflammatory properties which can help reduce swelling in dogs plagued with arthritis. Dogs who suffer from seizures may also benefit from CBD by reducing or even eliminating the occurrence of seizures. CBD can also reduce anxiety, help with digestive issues, aid sleeping, and help with countless other ailments your pooch may be suffering from. As with humans, CBD is a safe alternative to pharmaceuticals which have may have strong side effects. THC is toxic to dogs, so it is important to ensure the CBD you give to your dog contains 0% THC. Popular ways to give CBD to your dog include adding a few drops of CBD oil to their food, giving CBD treats, applying pain creams, and even using CBD shampoo!
